The media are essential to the conduct of democratic elections. An election is not only about casting a vote in proper conditions. For a voter to be able to make an informed choice, he/she needs adequate information about parties, policies, candidates and the election process itself. The EU EAT media analysis focuses on the overall assessment of the general situation of the media sector, which includes the legal provisions that guaranties freedom of press and speech and equal access to the media. It evaluates the working conditions of the journalists, the access for the papers to printing facilities and to the advertisement market share. Finally it also assesses the role played by the social media during the elections period.
